Outremont and the Hasidim<\/strong><\/em> reveals the challenges of accommodating the “Hasidim” – or ultra-Orthodox Jews – in the affluent Montr\u00e9al borough of Outremont.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Some 7,000 Hasidim live in or near this choice neighbourhood of Qu\u00e9bec\u2019s Francophone elite. After settling there more than 70 years ago, the Hasidim are a rapidly growing minority group which today represents about 23% of Outremont\u2019s population.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thanks to unprecedented access to this self-isolated community, the film lifts the veil on its practices, traditions, music and life as they had never before been seen on Canadian television, without ignoring the community\u2019s expectations, fears. and hopes.<\/p>\n\n\n

The growing presence of the Hasidim poses a major challenge for certain members of Outremont\u2019s French-speaking Qu\u00e9b\u00e9cois majority which fears the massive influx of a group, which according to some, refuses to integrate.<\/p>\n

Stepping beyond clich\u00e9s and stereotypes, Outremont and the Hasidim<\/em> presents the point of view of both sides in order to discover what divides and what unites them , in search of reasonable accommodation.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n
